Missing teeth can have a big impact on your confidence, comfort, and the way you look. And even though dental implants aren’t the solution to all missing teeth problems, they are an excellent option if you’re looking to regain your smile and your confidence.
How do dental implants work? Dental implants are small metal posts that are placed into your jaw bone after you’ve lost teeth or had them removed due to periodontal disease or injury to the bone itself. Implants then act as anchors for artificial teeth, which are placed on top, so that you can eat and smile with the confidence you deserve once again.
Dental implants are titanium tooth posts that replace missing teeth in the upper or lower jaw. The teeth are completely natural looking and feeling because the nerve endings will sense food and temperature, just like any other tooth. Implants can be screwed into bone, cemented onto the gums or inserted and left to heal without any attachment.
Dental implant surgery is typically performed under a local anesthetic, although this may depend on how many implants are being inserted or what type of patient is undergoing surgery. Once the implant has healed sufficiently, a crown is placed over it which will make it seem like any other tooth in your mouth when looked at from the front or side of your mouth – perfect for smiling!
Dental implants are titanium posts that are surgically placed into the jawbone to provide tooth support. There are 2 different kinds of dental implants:
Endosteal dental implants
which have an attached post, are inserted into a hole drilled straight through the bone at the site of missing teeth to act as an anchor for replacement teeth or fillings. These implants can also be used to close spaces left by wisdom teeth extractions.
Subperiosteal dental implants
sit just below the gum line, hidden under your gums. They're popular because they create less discomfort during treatment than other types of implant procedures. Unlike endosteal implants, they don't require drilling holes into the mouth's bones before being set into place.
There are no known health risks associated with dental implants, but there are some concerns that you need to be aware of before pursuing this treatment option. The first is the cost of dental implants, which varies depending on the type of implant and the dentist's individual costs. Always ask for exact pricing information before you start any treatment.
The second concern is that dental implants may not work for everyone (sometime the jaw bone is too weak) and there is a chance they will fail after time or require replacement. If you have any other health conditions that may put you at risk for complications, it is also important to speak to your doctor before getting dental implants treatment.
You may experience some temporary discomfort during the first few days after treatment, but this should go away as you heal. During this time, our knowledgable team at Nosehill Dental will give recommendations to help manage pain and swelling. We recommend to apply ice packs to the surgical site two or three times a day for at least twenty minutes each time. We would also recommend taking a break from any intense physical activity like rigorous exercise or contact sports until your implant has fully healed. The best thing to do while you recover is to keep up with general activities around the house and make sure not to pick at any of the stitches on your gum line.
Once the dental implants are fully integrated into your jaw, it'll be difficult to know that they're there at all. You'll be able to eat anything you want and resume a normal diet (even spicy foods). As for feeling, many people say that after getting dental implants, their mouths feel less sensitive to hot and cold because the jaw has been restored to its natural state of stability. They also say that their jaws feel more relaxed because the titanium implants often help reduce pressure on molars.
